Address Supporting Organization
ASO
The Address Supporting Organization (ASO), is one of the Supporting
Organizations called for in the ICANN Bylaws to be formed through community
consensus. The purpose of the ASO is to review and develop recommendations
on IP address policy and to advise the ICANN Board on these matters. In July
1999, the three currently existing Regional Internet Registries (APNIC, ARIN,
and RIPE NCC) submitted a proposal to form the ASO on the basis of a
Memorandum of Understanding. ICANN accepted this proposal on 26 August 1999.
The ASO was subsequently formed on 19 October 1999, when the MoU was signed
by representatives of APNIC, ARIN, and RIPE NCC and of ICANN, during the
ARIN Open Policy Meeting in Denver, USA. LACNIC signed the MoU in 30 October
2002 following its official recognition as an RIR.

CyberAtlas
Thanks to my friend Dan Horowitz for pointing out this great resource
Don't Be Afraid, Be Informed.
CyberAtlas provides readers with valuable statistics and Web marketing
information, enabling them to understand their business environment and make
more informed business decisions. CyberAtlas gathers online research from
the best data resources to provide a complete review of the latest surveys
and technologies available. Since its inception in 1996, CyberAtlas has
amassed numerous awards from reputable websites such as PC Magazine and USA
Today. Also noteworthy, major websites and Internet sources cite CyberAtlas
as the place to begin your online research. The site was acquired in August
of 1998 by internet.com.
DNS Resources Directory
The Domain Name System (DNS) is a distributed Internet directory service.
DNS is used mostly to translate between domain names and IP addresses, and
to control Internet email delivery. Most Internet services rely on DNS to
work, and if DNS fails, websites cannot be located and email delivery
stalls.

Geographical
Location of a Host's IP Address
How to find the geographical location of a host, given its IP address.
In general, it is impossible - IP addresses are allocated arbitrarily, as
there's no inherent connection between an IP address and it's physical
location, and there's no reliable method to do the trick. Yet, doing some
detective work could help.
How Many Online?
The art of estimating how many are online throughout the world is an inexact
one at best. Surveys abound, using all sorts of measurement parameters.
However, from observing many of the published surveys over the last two
years, here is an "educated guess" as to how many are online worldwide as of
August 2001. And the number is 513.41 million.

NetFlow: Weekly Reports
NetFlow data from all core routers of the Abilene network are analyzed to
produce weekly reports of use of the network. In essence, this is a weekly
version of the "Bulk TCP Use and Performance on Internet2" by Stanislav
Shalunov and Benjamin Teitelbaum (note, however, that the paper used one day
of data while the reports use a week of data each and that the paper used
data from the busiest router while the reports present a network-wide view).
The reports are produced automatically using programs written by Anatoly
Karp and Stanislav Shalunov. The CWEB program nfstat.w reads large daily
files and produces intermediate results that are further digested by a
collection of Perl programs.

information on all the currently available matches and targets (in kernel),
as well as a couple of complete example scripts and explanations. It
contains a complete section on iptables syntax, as well as other interesting
commands such as iptables-save and iptables-restore.

An Introduction to IPv6 by Charles P Mauch
Introduction to IPv6
This Guide was designed to introduce the reader to some of the major changes
in IPv6. It focuses on theory rather than on implementation.
Internet Protocol Version 6 -
Microsoft
Support for Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), a new suite of standard
protocols for the network layer of the Internet, is built into the latest
versions of Windows. IPv6 is designed to solve many of the problems of the
current version of IP (known as IPv4) with regard to address depletion,
security, autoconfiguration, extensibility, and more. Its use will also
expand the capabilities of the Internet to enable a variety of valuable and
exciting scenarios, including peer-to-peer and mobile applications. This
site contains links to a variety of resources on IPv6 technology and its
support in the current versions of Windows.
ISC.org Internet Systems
Consortium
ISC was originally founded as Internet Software Consortium, Inc., in 1994 to
continue the work of maintaining and enhancing BIND following in the
footsteps of U. C. Berkeley, Digital Equipment Corp., and Vixie Enterprises.
BIND was then (and is now) an essential component of the Internet's
infrastructure, and the founders (Paul Vixie, Carl Malamud, and Rick Adams)
felt very strongly that BIND's continued support and enhancement should be
managed and funded by an independent entity. IANA (Jon Postel, 1943-1998)
designated ISC as a root name server operator (first NS.ISC.ORG, then
F.ROOT-SERVERS.NET) so that we could properly support the use of BIND by
root name servers. Over the years a number of additional software systems
have either found refuge at ISC (INN, Lynx) or were created by ISC (DHCP,
OpenReg) to better support the Internet's infrastructure. We have also
expanded our operational activities beyond root name service, to include
Internet hosting facilities for other open source projects (NetBSD, XFree86,
kernel.org), secondary name service for more than 50 toplevel domains, and a
DNS OARC (Operations, Analysis and Research Center) for monitoring and
reporting of the Internet's Domain Name System.

MaxMind GeoIP
MaxMind GeoIP can help locate internet visitors. Analyze web logs to locate
clients, geo-target banner ads, detect credit card fraud, auto-select
country on forms, prevent password sharing and abuse of service, and display
native language and currency. Obtain the Country, Region, City, Latitude,
and Longitude of any IP address. MaxMind offers a number of methods for
accessing MaxMind GeoIP, including APIs for C, Perl, PHP, Java, Python,
Ruby, C#, Apache, as well as web services. APIs are Open Source and we offer
GeoIP Standard Country for free. The C API contains geoipupdate, a program
for our clients to automate the download of GeoIP Premium Country updates.
Netcraft Web
Server Query
Netcraft has developed a service which examines a network connected to the
Internet and reports back to you which hosts are visible and what protocols
and services they make available to the Internet at large. It then probes
the available services for vulnerabilities including mis-configurations and
erroneous software versions. Access to information analyzing the
vulnerabilities and support by internet mail are included as standard.
NetGeo
The Internet Geographic Database
NetGeo is a database and collection of Perl scripts used to map IP addresses
and AS numbers to geographical locations. CAIDA is developing this system
for use in network visualization/analysis tools. It is available for use on
the web, though subject to rate limiting. The source and database, however,
are not available for download at this time.

twURLed World
"twURLed World" is our term for how the WWW looks when profiled and
displayed using twURL's classifying, filtering, and reporting features. The
twURLed World adds value to URL lists by highlighting important features of
the collection and providing a true "topic web" of keyword, site/URL,
inter-link, heuristic valuation, and author rating. In technical terms, URLs
are collected (usually by powerful metasearchers), input to twURL as HTML or
other URL lists, clustered using text analysis algorithms, reorganized into
hierarchical outlines at the Windows interface, triaged (deleting redundant
or off-topic URLs), automatically browsed (for collection author approval
and rating), and output in various HTML formats. These decision support
functions using a "URL Explorer" interface model makes filtering large
collections of URLs less labor intensive and truly intellectually
challenging. Just as 3x5 note cards and topic outlines were key tools for
college term papers, topic-specific webs are a new form of scholarly and
business investigation.
