The Good, The Bad, and The Hidden...
CNET released a series of
security issues on rootkits that includes one developed for Windows NT
and Windows 2000. Although the NT rootkit is allegedly in the
proof-of-concept stage, it has all the ingredients to become lethal on a
system that has been compromised.
The Good, a system must first be compromised; The Bad, it has access to all
the resources of the operating system at the core of the NT kernel; The
Hidden, it conceals itself from detection and is more difficult to detect
than its Unix counterparts.
